The Concept of Need

A need is a fundamental human desire that motivates us to act. It is a driving force that propels a person to a goal, whether it be to achieve health, safety or financial security. The need to feel safe, secure and loved is a primary need for humans that can be fulfilled through various strategies such as self-care, spiritual practice or relationship building. The need for food, water and shelter are basic needs and a deficiency of these leads to distress or death.

In business, the concept of need is a common one that can be found in company policies and marketing materials. Generally, these policies outline the criteria for employment and promotions as well as requirements for employees to meet certain performance levels.
